I will preface this post by saying I am well aware of the overuse and abuse of comparing a band to another band to describe their sound. So I will not describe sexy skinny young Brit synth band Late of the Pier as “Gary Numan meets Franz Ferdinand”, or call them “The Faint’s British cousin” or even muse that if “all of the members of Human League and The Cars ever begat a son it might be Late of the Pier’s lead singer Samuel Dust”. But I will say that their recently released album Fantasy Black Channel sounds like all of the bands I enjoy dancing to, and sometimes it sounds like the soundrtrack to Galaga, which now that I think about it, I would probably enjoy dancing to as well.
If KEXP didn’t tell you first I will accept heartfelt thank you’s for introducing you to the next band that will make you regret your delayed purchase of white ray-bans…because you’ll want to fit in when they play the Paradise on April 8th. (Brooklyn people, are those so 5 seconds ago yet or what? We trust you to let us know, thanks!)
You wanna know why else you can love them forever? They have a CRAPLOAD of pretty sweet and arty videos on You Tube, including an obligatory 80’s throwbacky video (for “Focker”, which looks like it was shot on 1989 Canadian TV film).
Also, somebody get me a style guide…
